Today was an exciting day. We took the back road out of Real de Catorce ... a long, steep as hell, unmaintained, cobble stone road with dirt and gravel mixed in, and big drops on the side ... with a few 4x4 jeeps heading up!
After we made it down, we saw Chuck coming down the mountain with Sagy ?!? ... Where is Joe? Keith and I decided to head up to help Joe bring his motorcycle down ... yes, we went two-up, on a fully loaded motorcycle, up the nasty road we had just come down! Needless to say, we were doing wheelies going up ... spooky ... but managed to get Joe down.
The road to Zacatecas was a beautiful, uneventful, peaceful ride along the unpopulated high plateau of central Mexico ... very zen.
After checking into the amazing Quinta Real (a restored and remodeled bullfighting ring), we had lunch and went about town to check the sites. We managed to make it to the Gondola that goes to the top of "La Bufa" mountain 10 minutes before the closed. A great ride on a glass bottomed gondola. The attendant did tell us that if the Gondola fell down, they would give us a full refund ??!? : )
What a great experience to see the city from up there ... and to see the city slowly go from daylight to nighttime with a great sunset thrown in ... the lighting, the architecture, the great churches, the street lights turning on, the people ... life everywhere.
Tomorrow we head to Guanajuato. Pam and Cindy took off from Dallas today and landed in Guanajuato on time at around 10pm. They will join the group tomorrow as we make our way there through the Sierra de Lobos - an area we have never been through before.
